Archiquad Wins Knauf Competition with BCG Office Project

The 1,000 m² Boston Consulting Group (BCG) office project, designed by the Archiquad team, won the Best Use of Knauf Materials category at the Knauf competition. The project is based on an integrated approach to workplace design, bringing together acoustics, engineering solutions and corporate identity within a unified concept.

An Integrated Approach to Design

As part of the project, Archiquad delivered the interior design, FF&E specification and procurement, engineering design, acoustic calculations, lighting design and author supervision. All solutions were developed in accordance with international requirements and BCG’s corporate brand guidelines.

One of the key challenges was managing acoustics in open-plan workspaces. Instrumental noise measurements and acoustic calculations were carried out to assess existing conditions. This informed the selection of materials and solutions aimed at reducing background noise within the office and limiting sound transmission between rooms.

Knauf Sapphire boards were used for partitions, while HERADESIGN Superfine acoustic panels were specified for the ceiling systems. Wall treatments and carpet flooring were also incorporated into the acoustic strategy. Material selection was guided not only by technical performance but also by the visual requirements of the interior.

Local Context and Material Selection

One of the project’s objectives was to create a workspace that would stand apart from other BCG offices while reflecting its local context. The Archiquad team drew inspiration from traditional Uzbek ornaments, incorporating them into the interior design — first in the door finishes and then in the acoustic panel design.

Timur Khismatulin, Project Manager and Chief Architect at Archiquad, discusses the concept development, material selection and key aspects of the BCG office project:

“The project involved meticulous work and required careful attention to detail. We went through several stages of tender selection and interviews before moving on to the design phase.

One of our objectives was to create an office that would differ from other BCG spaces and reflect the local context. We chose traditional Uzbek ornaments as our starting point. We first incorporated them into the door design, then developed the idea further and transferred the ornament to the acoustic panels.

We proposed the material after visiting the showroom. The client appreciated its natural texture and environmental characteristics. Another advantage was its availability on the local market, which helped us avoid long lead times associated with deliveries from Europe.

I am very pleased that the project has received this recognition. Participating in the competition is a source of professional pride for us. We regularly use Knauf materials in our projects and value the company’s continued development of acoustic solutions and its focus on the environmental characteristics of its products. This is particularly important in commercial spaces, especially offices: materials must meet not only aesthetic requirements but also the needs of acoustic comfort and user safety.”

Recognition for the Team’s Work

For Archiquad, the award represents recognition of the work invested in the project. Jakhongir Mekhmonov, the company’s Lead Designer who worked on the project, attended the award ceremony in Tbilisi.

“Winning first place in the Best Use of Knauf Materials category with our completed BCG office project is a great source of joy for the Archiquad Group team. It is recognition of our work and professional approach.

Throughout the project, we paid particular attention to the thoughtful use of materials, aesthetics and quality of execution. That is why it is especially rewarding to see our efforts recognised.

The trip was also very well organised. Over two days, we explored Tbilisi accompanied by a Knauf guide, learning about the city’s architecture, history and atmosphere. The award ceremony on the second evening was one of the most memorable moments of the trip.

It was also my first trip abroad, which made the experience particularly memorable. I am very happy about our win and grateful to Knauf for this experience and the opportunity to present our team’s work.”

Professional competitions provide an opportunity to exchange expertise with industry partners, strengthen collaboration and showcase the results of joint work. The Best Use of Knauf Materials award recognises Archiquad’s approach to the BCG office project, where technical solutions, material properties and local context were brought together in a unified workplace concept.
